A Good Witness

A Good Witness

In her gripping psychological crime thriller debut, Randi Whitney delves into the dark complexities of human relationships and the fragile nature of truth. A Good Witness tells the story of Joe, an unassuming newcomer to a close-knit group of seven men in a small town. As Joe integrates into their circle, their camaraderie deepens—but beneath the surface, one member subtly manipulates the others' perceptions of him.

When a young woman is brutally murdered, suspicion falls squarely on Joe. His trial becomes a crucible of conflicting testimony as each man takes the stand. Yet, the truth remains elusive—most of the men testify NOT to what they know but to what they've been led to believe. Only one man dares to break free from the narrative, exposing the cracks in their fragile bond.

The verdict may bring closure to the courtroom, but it cannot erase the lingering unease among the group. When they reunite at a funeral long after the trial, old wounds resurface, and buried secrets unravel, threatening to upend their lives once again. In the end, the men must confront a harrowing question: Can they trust what they’ve seen, heard, or even remember?

With a masterful exploration of guilt, manipulation, and the power of perspective, A Good Witness reminds readers to protect their own minds against the influence of others. Be careful little eyes what you see. Be careful little ears what you hear. Your perspective may be the only thing keeping you safe.

The Knock

The Knock by Randi Whitney explores the life of Evie, a young woman whose teenage years are overshadowed by the ominous sound of knocking at her door. These knocks aren’t ordinary—they are from relentless members of the media, desperate for a story about the city corruption her father is uncovering. Each knock brings a wave of fear and unease, a stark contrast to the comfort Evie once found in the playful knock-knock jokes she and her brother used to share. Those lighthearted moments are a distant memory, eclipsed by the weight of her reality.

When Evie’s father mysteriously goes missing, the physical knocks cease, but their haunting presence remains, manifesting as a psychological burden she carries daily. The line between past and present blurs as her mind replays the trauma of unanswered questions and unresolved fears. In her struggle to move forward, Evie finds herself entangled in a complex relationship with a detective, whose motives and loyalties are as clouded as the truth she seeks.

Driven by fragments of hope and cryptic clues left by her family, Evie embarks on a journey to uncover what really happened. Each step unravels pieces of her father’s work, the corruption he sought to expose, and the reasons behind his disappearance. As the mystery unfolds, Evie confronts her deepest fears, challenging the psychological “knocks” that have shaped her life.

The Knock is a gripping tale of resilience, family bonds, and the search for truth, blending suspense with an intimate exploration of trauma and healing.

Through Evie’s eyes, readers experience the transformative power of courage in the face of relentless uncertainty.

Reviews

I couldn't put this book down!

From the very first page, I was hooked by the intriguing premise and the well-developed characters.

What I loved most was the twist at the end – I honestly didn’t see it coming! The author does a fantastic job of keeping the reader guessing, and making sure the reveal is both surprising and satisfying. The character development is also strong, and I found myself really invested in Joe's journey.

If you're a fan of psychological crime thrillers, this is definitely a book you’ll want to check out!
